Snooker is a precision cue sport played on a large baize-covered table, in which players use a cue ball to pot a set sequence of colored and red object balls into six pockets to accumulate points. It originated among British army officers stationed in colonial India in the 1870s before becoming established as a major spectator sport in the United Kingdom during the 20th century. The sport is governed internationally by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association and is not part of the Olympic program.
