Joe Russell is an American backgammon player from Memphis, Tennessee. He won the Backgammon World Championship held in Monaco in 1989 and was later a runner-up world finalist, and was inducted into the American Backgammon Hall of Fame in 2017. He is a founding sponsor and board chairman of the US Backgammon Federation, organized the first national collegiate backgammon championships, and coached the UCLA backgammon team to the 2011 national collegiate title.
