Artistic Swimming

Aquatic Sports

Artistic swimming, formerly known as synchronized swimming, is an aquatic sport combining swimming, gymnastics and dance in which individuals, duets or teams perform choreographed routines to music, judged on synchronization, technical skill and artistic impression. It has been part of the Summer Olympics since 1984 and is governed internationally by World Aquatics. The sport developed in North America in the early 20th century from water ballet exhibitions before becoming a formally judged competitive discipline.
