Ute Geweniger

Ute Geweniger, later known as Ute Strauss, is a retired East German competitive swimmer, born February 24, 1964, in Karl-Marx-Stadt, Saxony, who specialized in breaststroke and medley events during the 1980s. She won two Olympic gold medals at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, in the 100 meter breaststroke and the 4x100 meter medley relay, and set seven individual and two relay world records over her career. She was named World Swimmer of the Year by Swimming World Magazine in 1983 and European Swimmer of the Year in 1981 and 1983, and won multiple medals at World and European Championships in breaststroke and medley events. In 2005 she publicly acknowledged that her performances had been supported by doping.
