Havannah (board game)

Alignment and Abstract Strategy Games

Havannah is a two-player abstract strategy board game invented by Christian Freeling in 1981, played on a board made of hexagonal cells. It belongs to the family of connection games, alongside relatives such as Hex and TwixT, in which each player tries to link cells together into one of several winning shapes rather than capture an opponent's pieces. A player wins by completing any one of three distinct patterns, a bridge connecting two of the board's corners, a fork touching three of its edges, or a ring enclosing at least one cell, which gives the game a notably wide set of winning conditions compared to most connection games.
