Alina Zagitova

Alina Ilnazovna Zagitova is a Russian former competitive figure skater, born in 2002 in Izhevsk, Udmurtia, who won the gold medal in ladies' singles at the 2018 Winter Olympics at age fifteen, becoming the second-youngest Olympic champion in the discipline's history, and set the historical world record score in the women's short program at those Games. She went on to win the 2019 World Championship, the 2018 European Championship and the 2017-18 Grand Prix Final, and became only the second women's singles skater after Yuna Kim to complete a Super Slam of every major International Skating Union title at junior and senior level. Her strategy of placing all her jumps in the second half of her programs to maximize scoring led the sport's governing body to introduce what became known as the Zagitova rule limiting the practice, and she has stepped back from competition since the 2019-20 season to work in television hosting and commentary.
