Cindy Klassen is a Canadian speed skater born August 12, 1979, in Winnipeg, who began her athletic career as an ice hockey player before switching to speed skating. At the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics she won five medals in a single Games, a Canadian record, including gold in the 1500 meters, silver in the team pursuit, 1000 meters and 3000 meters, and bronze in the 5000 meters, which made her at the time the most decorated Canadian Olympian ever. She retired from competitive speed skating in 2014 after a long career battling injuries in her later years.
