Rosi Mittermaier was a German alpine skier, born August 5, 1950, in Munich, who died January 4, 2023. She won gold medals in the slalom and downhill and a silver in the giant slalom at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, a performance regarded at the time as the best ever by a woman in Olympic alpine skiing, despite never having won a downhill race before that Games. She was also the overall World Cup champion in 1976, received the Olympic Order in silver in 1999, and was inducted into the German Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
