Irina Rodnina is a Russian retired pair skater and politician born September 12, 1949, in Moscow, who competed for the Soviet Union. She won ten consecutive World Championships from 1969 to 1978 and three consecutive Olympic gold medals in 1972, 1976 and 1980, skating first with Alexei Ulanov and then with Alexander Zaitsev, whom she married, becoming the first pair skater to win Olympic titles with two different partners. She later served in the Russian State Duma from 2007 and helped light the Olympic cauldron at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games.
