Court piece

Court piece, also known as Hokm, Rung or Rang, is a trick-taking card game closely related to whist, played by four players in two fixed partnerships seated crosswise from one another. Using a standard 52-card deck, the dealer distributes the first five cards to the eldest hand, who then names the trump suit before the remainder of the deck is dealt out in batches. Tricks are played in the usual whist fashion, with the goal of winning at least seven of the thirteen tricks in a round to score a point for the partnership; winning seven tricks in unbroken succession, called a kot, or all thirteen tricks, called a bavney, earns a greater reward. Originating in Iran, the game is widely played across South Asia, including India and Pakistan, as well as among diaspora communities in Suriname and the Netherlands.
