Bavarian Tarock

Bavarian Tarock, in German Bayerisches Tarock and often simply called Tarock, is a three player, point trick card game that was once popular across Bavaria and was also played in parts of Austria and in Berlin. It descends from the older German game of Grosstarock, which was played with genuine tarot cards, and in the middle to late eighteenth century players began adapting Tarock play to a standard thirty six card German suited pack instead of the older tarot deck. The game is played clockwise and is normally recommended for players aged ten and older, with a typical game lasting around forty five minutes. Despite its name the game no longer uses tarot cards at all, keeping only the trick taking structure and scoring conventions inherited from its tarot card ancestor.
