Unstable is an official parody expansion set for the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering, published by Wizards of the Coast and released on December 8, 2017. It is the third entry in Magic's long-running series of humor-focused, non-tournament-legal sets, following Unglued in 1998 and Unhinged in 2004, and like its two predecessors it is printed with distinctive silver-bordered cards to mark it as outside normal tournament play. The set continues the series' tradition of joke cards, unconventional game mechanics not used in standard Magic sets, and cards that reference real-world trivia, internet culture and past Magic community moments, intended to be played in casual, unsanctioned games rather than competitive formats. Unstable's release came thirteen years after Unhinged, making it a long-awaited return of the silver-border format for the game's fan base and drawing renewed attention to the series as a showcase for card designs too unconventional for Magic's regular rules.
