Tressette

Tressette is a trick-taking card game played with the forty-card Italian-suited deck and ranks alongside Scopa and Briscola as one of Italy's major traditional card games, though written records of it survive only from the early eighteenth century onward. It remains widely played not only across Italy but also in territories once ruled by Italian predecessor states, including Albania, Montenegro, and the coastal regions of Slovenia and Croatia, and a version using a French-suited deck is played in Switzerland's Italian-speaking Canton of Ticino. Two to four players may play individually or in two-player partnerships; ten cards are dealt to each player from the forty-card deck, with any remaining cards forming a draw pile, and players must follow the suit led whenever they are able. Points accrue for capturing face cards, threes and twos, each worth a third of a point, and aces, worth a full point, with matches continuing until a side reaches twenty-one points.
