Tapp Tarock

Tapp Tarock, in German Tapp-Tarock and also known as Viennese Tappen, Tappen or Tapper, is a three player, trick-taking tarot card game traditionally played with the fifty four card Industrie und Gluck deck. It was a favorite pastime in Viennese coffeehouses before 1938, and while its precise origin date is uncertain, mentions in caricature operas from 1806 indicate the game was already established by the late eighteenth century, with some sources suggesting development in Austria in the early nineteenth century. The oldest surviving written description of its rules dates to 1821. A typical deal takes about twenty minutes, reflecting the game's brisk trick taking pace.
