500, also called Five Hundred, is a trick-taking card game combining elements of euchre and bridge, played with a modified deck that includes the joker as the highest trump. Developed in the United States in the early twentieth century and promoted commercially by the United States Playing Card Company, it became especially popular in Australia and parts of Canada, where it remains a common social and club card game today. Play centers on a bidding phase in which players contract to win a stated number of tricks with a chosen trump suit.
