Persepolis Football Club is a professional football club based in Tehran, Iran, founded in 1963, and one of the most widely supported and successful clubs in Iranian football history, having won numerous Iranian league championships. Playing in red shirts, the club takes its name from the ancient Persian capital and maintains a historic and intense rivalry with fellow Tehran club Esteghlal, known as the Tehran Derby, regarded as one of the most attended and passionately followed derby matches in Asian football, regularly drawing sellout crowds to Tehran's Azadi Stadium.
