Sports in which a crew or an individual propels a narrow boat with a paddle or an oar over water. Canoeing and kayaking use a paddle held without a fixed pivot, and rowing uses oars locked to the hull, over flat-water courses, rapids and slalom gates. What belongs here is a boat sport driven by the strength of the crew. Every sport filed in this group belongs to the Water and Boat Sports category and has its own entry in the Sport and Games Atlas, from which a reader can follow links on to its leading athletes, its competitions and the governing bodies that set its rules.
