Baseball and Softball

The two closely related bat and ball games played on a diamond with bases, in which a batter tries to hit a thrown ball and run around the bases to score. Baseball is played with a smaller ball and overhand pitching, softball with a larger ball and underhand pitching. The two share rules, equipment and a governing federation, and are often staged together. Every sport filed in this group belongs to the Bat-and-Ball Sports category and has its own entry in the Sport and Games Atlas, from which a reader can follow links on to its leading athletes, its competitions and the governing bodies that set its rules.
