The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (Norges idrettsforbund og olympiske og paralympiske komite, NIF) is Norway's National Olympic Committee, Paralympic Committee and umbrella sports confederation, tracing its roots to a national sports confederation founded in 1861 and merged with the country's Olympic and Paralympic committees in 1996, headquartered in Oslo. It oversees Norway's Olympic and grassroots sport federations and has presided over Norway's position as the most successful nation in Winter Olympic history by total medal count, built on deep strength in cross-country skiing, biathlon and other snow sports.
