Project A-ko: The Roleplaying Game

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Project A-ko: The Roleplaying Game is a tabletop role-playing game published by Dream Pod 9 in 1995, based on the Japanese animated film Project A-ko. Designed by Jimmy Mah, it was the first game Dream Pod 9 released using the Silhouette System, a rules engine developed for IANVS Publications, later renamed Protoculture, and built around fast, simple mechanics intended to keep play moving rather than bog it down in detailed subsystems. The book debuted at Gen Con 26 and marked Dream Pod 9's first release as a fully independent company. The Silhouette System introduced with this title went on to become the shared foundation for the company's later games, most notably Heavy Gear, which the studio released the same year, making Project A-ko: The Roleplaying Game the origin point for a rules line that carried across several subsequent Dream Pod 9 titles.
