Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island is a storytelling cooperative board game published in 2012 by the Polish company Portal Games and designed by Ignacy Trzewiczek, drawing its characters and castaway premise from Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. Players work together rather than against each other, taking on the roles of shipwrecked survivors who must cooperate to build shelter, gather food and craft tools and weapons while facing the island's hazards, with the game's scenario system driving a different narrative situation, from simple survival to darker mysteries involving the island itself, across its various included adventures. Because it is fully cooperative, the group wins or loses together at the end of each scenario depending on whether the survivors met that scenario's specific goals before running out of time or being defeated by the island's dangers, and its combination of resource management, character development and event driven storytelling has made it one of the better known cooperative survival board games since its release.
