Golem Arcana

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Golem Arcana is a 2014 tabletop miniature wargame developed and published by Harebrained Schemes, combining physical miniatures moved on a game board with a companion app for iOS and Android that runs most of the actual rules processing. Players tap a Bluetooth-enabled stylus against each miniature and terrain piece to resolve movement, combat, and special abilities, letting the app track statistics, calculate outcomes, and read the story aloud instead of players consulting printed rulebooks and tables during play. The game was funded through a Kickstarter campaign launched in September 2013 that raised more than 500,000 dollars, and it released on August 13, 2014. Reviewers praised its visuals, lore, and underlying ruleset while criticizing its price and the amount of dedicated hardware and app support the hybrid physical-digital format required. Harebrained Schemes stopped active development and production of Golem Arcana in 2016, leaving it as a notable but short-lived experiment in pairing tabletop miniatures with app-driven digital rules.
