Battle Dice

Battle Dice is a collectible dice game built around small superhero figurines housed inside the dice that players roll during play. It was created by Genie Toys and licensed to Playmates Toys, launching in 2006 with a line of Marvel Comics characters. Each figurine-die represents a character rated on six attributes, Intelligence, Strength, Speed, Durability, Energy and Fighting Skills, each on a zero-to-six scale. On a turn, players place their figurines into their dice and roll; whoever rolls lower gets to choose which attribute the characters will be compared on, and the higher score on that attribute wins the exchange. Characters carry point values, and tournament teams were typically capped at thirty points to keep especially powerful characters, such as Dark Phoenix, in check. The line included booster packs of three figures and one die, starter sets of six figures, and oversized launcher versions of characters like the Thing and the Hulk. Battle Dice received generally favorable reviews, but Playmates withdrew support in September 2006, cutting the line short and leaving a planned second series and a DC Comics expansion unreleased.
