KeyForge

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

KeyForge is a card game created by designer Richard Garfield, originally published by Fantasy Flight Games and released on November 15, 2018, before rights passed to Ghost Galaxy in June 2022. Built for two players, it belongs to the unique deck game category: every deck is algorithmically generated at the factory and sold sealed, so no two decks are identical and players cannot modify or construct their own the way they do in traditional collectible card games. Each deck draws its cards from three of several rival Houses, and on a turn a player declares one House and may only play or use cards belonging to it, with no resource cost required to do so, a marked departure from mana or energy systems used in games such as Magic: The Gathering. Players build up a resource called Aember by playing creatures, artifacts, actions and upgrades from their declared House, racing to forge three keys before their opponent does the same.
