Blood Bowl is a miniatures board game created by games designer Jervis Johnson for the British company Games Workshop, first released in 1986 as a parody of American football set in the Warhammer fantasy world. Two players each field a team of fantastical creatures, such as orcs, elves, or dwarfs, and take turns moving figures across a gridded pitch to carry a ball into the opposing end zone while blocking, tackling, and often maiming rival players with dice-based combat. Blood Bowl has been reissued in several editions since its debut and has spawned an active competitive tournament scene and video game adaptations.
