Terraforming Mars is a strategy board game for one to five players, designed by Jacob Fryxelius and first published by FryxGames in 2016, later carried by other publishers including Stronghold Games. Players take the role of competing corporations tasked with terraforming the planet Mars, working to raise its temperature, add oxygen to the atmosphere, cover its surface with water and establish plant and animal life. The game combines resource management, engine building through project cards and strategic planning on a hex-mapped board, and it ends once the shared terraforming parameters reach their targets. Players compete for the most victory points, earned both from their contribution to terraforming Mars itself and from the infrastructure their own corporation develops along the way. A typical game runs around two hours, and the title became one of the most acclaimed strategy board games of its decade, spawning numerous expansions.
