Marrakech (game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Marrakech is a board game designed by Dominique Ehrhard in which two to four players, four recommended, take the roles of rival carpet traders competing in the markets of Marrakech. It was first published in 2007 by Zoch Verlag in Germany, with editions also released by Gigamic in France and Kaissa Chess and Games in Greece; its German edition was renamed Suleika. Players move a merchant token called Assam around a shared square board, laying down colored carpets to claim territory and charging rent to opponents whose tokens land on their carpets. Success depends on managing a small purse of money while building the largest, most valuable network of carpet squares before the game's rounds run out. Its light rules and quick sessions have made it a popular family level strategy title recommended for players six and up.
