Players take on the roles of competing diseases spreading across a stylized map of medieval European trade routes, using event cards and dice to infect population centers, with the game won by the disease that reaches a set number of victims first. The board's trade-route layout governs how each disease can spread from one population center to the next, so movement along those routes, not open-map travel, drives the whole contest between the rival infections.
