Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure board game designed by Richard Launius, originally published in 1987 by Chaosium and based on Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu role-playing game, itself drawn from H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Supporting one to eight players, the game casts participants as investigators, each represented by a character card with attributes such as sanity, who explore the fictional Massachusetts town of Arkham in 1926, battling monsters, gathering items and spells, and working together to close interdimensional gates before an ancient cosmic entity awakens. Fantasy Flight Games released a revised second edition in 2005 and a further redesigned third edition in 2018.
