Small World (board game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Small World is a board game designed by Philippe Keyaerts, illustrated by Miguel Coimbra with graphic design by Cyrille Daujean, and published by Days of Wonder in 2009. It reworks Keyaerts' earlier 1999 game Vinci, keeping its core idea that a fantasy world is too small for every people to thrive at once, so two to five players, or six with an expansion, each guide a series of fantasy races and special powers across a shrinking map, expanding their territory by conquest and abandoning a declining civilization for a fresh one when it can no longer grow. Victory points accumulate from territory held and bonuses tied to each race and power combination. The game earned the 2010 Games magazine Game of the Year award and became one of Days of Wonder's best-known strategy titles.
