GridIron Master is a wooden board game invented by Brett Proud, Craig Proud, Paul Morin and Jordan Sampson that combines the strategic positioning of gridiron football, both American and Canadian, with the piece movement of chess. It was first published in 2007 by the Canadian company PHI Sports Games, and its Canadian edition carries an official license from the Canadian Football League Players' Association. The game is designed for two to four players, sets up in under five minutes and typically plays in ninety minutes to two hours, with a recommended age of ten and up. By mapping football strategy concepts onto a chess-like board and piece system, GridIron Master targets players who enjoy both sports strategy and abstract board game play.
