Fearsome Floors

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Fearsome Floors is a horror-themed board game designed by Friedemann Friese, first published in 2003 by 2F-Spiel with a later edition from Rio Grande Games. Two to seven players each control a colored disk racing to escape a collapsing dungeon before a ravenous monster catches them, with the game rewarding players who can steer that monster's movement toward their rivals instead of themselves. Movement is driven by double-sided tokens with varying values, and stone pillars scattered across the floor let fleeing characters block lines of sight or duck out of the monster's detection range. The creature itself is not controlled by any single player; instead its path each turn is determined jointly by the players still in danger, turning survival into a shifting alliance of self-interest as everyone tries to nudge the beast toward someone else. A typical game runs about an hour and is recommended for players aged ten and up.
