Tikal is a German-style board game designed by Wolfgang Kramer and Michael Kiesling, published in 1999 by Ravensburger in German and by Rio Grande Games in English. Set in a Central American jungle, the game casts players as rival archaeological expeditions racing to explore temple ruins, uncover ancient artifacts and hold control of excavated temples at the end of the game, using a shared pool of action points each turn to move explorers, dig for treasure or fight for territory. Its combination of area control and a limited, contested action-point system made it an influential entry in the wave of German-style strategy games of the late 1990s.
