Striker (miniatures game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Striker is a science fiction miniatures wargame designed by Frank Chadwick and published by Game Designers' Workshop in 1981 as a boxed expansion to the tabletop role-playing game Traveller. The game uses 15mm scale miniature figures to represent infantry, vehicles and other combat units, and it extends Traveller's science fiction setting into detailed tactical ground combat, letting Traveller referees and players resolve large-scale battles that the core roleplaying rules were not built to handle directly. As part of the Traveller product line, Striker was designed to interoperate with the setting's established technology levels and equipment, giving referees rules for translating a world's tech level and available hardware into miniature wargame statistics for vehicles and troops. The game represents an early and influential example of a licensed miniatures wargame built specifically as a companion product to an existing tabletop roleplaying game rather than as a standalone release.
