Mega-Mania

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Mega-Mania is a 1987 board game expansion published by Games Workshop for the science fiction dueling game Block Mania, itself set in the dystopian Judge Dredd comic universe. Designed by Richard Halliwell, it expands the original two-player format to accommodate up to four players, each controlling residents of a different city block. Players attempt to cause as much destruction as possible to rival blocks using weapons that range from spray paint and handguns to flamethrowers and heavy lasers, all before the Judges arrive to restore order. Victory goes to whichever block sustains the least damage when the game ends, rewarding careful defense as much as aggression. As an expansion rather than a standalone product, Mega-Mania illustrates how tabletop wargames of the period built multiplayer variety onto an existing core system rather than replacing it outright.
