The Quacks of Quedlinburg is a push-your-luck board game designed by Wolfgang Warsch and published by Schmidt Spiele in 2018, in which each player acts as a charlatan brewing a potion by drawing ingredient chips at random from an opaque bag and adding them one at a time to a personal cauldron represented on a spiral scoring board. Most chips advance the cauldron safely, but a growing number of cherry bomb chips risk an explosion once their combined value passes a threshold, at which point a player who has gone too far loses part of that round's ingredients, so the central tension is deciding when to stop drawing and bank the round's progress. The game won the Kennerspiel des Jahres award in 2018, a prize for advanced-strategy games in the German awards system parallel to the more family-oriented Spiel des Jahres, and it has since received several expansions adding new ingredient types and market options.
