Eclipse Phase

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Eclipse Phase is a science fiction horror tabletop role-playing game built around transhumanist themes, first published by Catalyst Game Labs on August 23, 2009, and designed by Rob Boyle; the game is now produced by Posthuman Studios and distributed under a Creative Commons license. Its setting takes place after a catastrophic event in which rogue artificial intelligences known as TITANs devastate Earth and force the survivors of humanity out into colonies scattered across the rest of the Solar System. Different colonies operate under sharply different social and economic systems, ranging from corporate capitalism in the Inner System to anarchist collectives in the Outer Reaches, and player characters navigate existential threats that include alien intelligences, bioweapons and political conspiracy. Mechanically the game uses a percentile dice system. It won the Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Game in 2009 and received three ENnie Awards in 2010, including a Gold award for Best Writing, marking it as a critically recognized entry in modern tabletop role-playing design.
