Modern Art is an auction board game designed by Reiner Knizia and first published in 1992 by the German publisher Hans im Glück. Players take the role of art dealers buying and selling paintings by five fictional artists across several rounds of auctions, then selling their acquired works back to the bank at prices set by that round's total sales. Popularity carries forward, so a fashionable artist's works grow more valuable in later rounds while unpopular ones fall away. Although played entirely with cards, a scoring board is used to track prices, so the game is often shelved as a board game. It was recommended for the 1993 Spiel des Jahres and has since been published in numerous editions worldwide, including versions from Mayfair Games in the United States and Oink Games in Japan.
