Crosscheck is a strategy board game published by TSR in 1985 that combines the tile-laying, word-building mechanics of Scrabble with the grid logic of a crossword puzzle. Designed by Anne C. Gray, the game asks two to four players to place lettered tiles to complete overlapping words on a shared board, scoring points for successful crossings. Although the original board game did not sell well on release, a licensed computer adaptation published by Datasoft in 1986 proved considerably more popular than the tabletop original, extending the game's reach to home computer players. Crosscheck sits alongside other mid-1980s word-and-strategy hybrids that tried to combine familiar crossword conventions with competitive board game scoring.
