Coup (board game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Coup, also published under the title Holiday AG, is a board game released in 1975 by the German publisher F.X. Schmid. Players compete to obtain the largest continuous line of cities visited, building routes and acquiring shares as they travel across a shared map. The game supports two to six players and belongs to the family of mid-1970s European travel and route-building strategy games that preceded the modern hobby board game boom. It is unrelated to the 2012 hidden-role card game of the same name; this earlier Coup is a route-and-shares board game with no bluffing or elimination mechanics. Coup remains a lesser-documented entry from F.X. Schmid's 1970s catalogue, noted chiefly for its shares-and-routes scoring system rather than any lasting competitive or commercial prominence.
