Zombicide

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Zombicide is a collaborative adventure board game with a modern zombie-survival theme, created by designers Raphael Guiton, Jean-Baptiste Lullien, and Nicolas Raoult under the studio name Guillotine Games. The game was first brought to market through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign that raised over 780,000 dollars from more than five thousand backers, an unusually large sum for a board game project at the time, and was subsequently published by CoolMiniOrNot along with several international co-publishers including Asmodee, Edge Entertainment, and Hobby World. Zombicide is played cooperatively by one to six players, each controlling one or more human survivor characters who must complete scenario objectives, such as escaping a location or retrieving an item, while fighting off ever-growing hordes of zombies that spawn and multiply as noise and violence escalate on the game board. Its success on Kickstarter and subsequent commercial performance helped popularize crowdfunding as a viable path to publication for miniature-heavy hobby board games, and the base game spawned numerous standalone expansions and thematic spin-off titles in the years that followed.
