Spellmaker

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Spellmaker is a fantasy board game published in 1978 by Gametime Games, a subsidiary of Heritage Models. Two to four players take on the roles of rival wizards, each commanding creatures summoned from a personal tower in a race to rescue a princess held by a dragon and bring her safely back to their own castle. Rather than resolving conflict through direct combat between the wizards themselves, the game emphasizes magical creature management, as each wizard directs beasts under their command to outmaneuver rivals and reach the objective first. Its combination of a fairy tale rescue premise with creature-based strategy places it among the fantasy-themed hobby games of the late 1970s.
