Marvel HeroClix: Infinity Challenge

Marvel HeroClix: Infinity Challenge is a 2002 board game published by WizKids, and it holds the distinction of being the first set released in the Marvel HeroClix line of collectible miniatures games. Players build and field squads of small plastic combat figures representing Marvel Comics superheroes and villains, using the HeroClix system in which each figure's stats and abilities are tracked through a rotating dial built into its base rather than through a separate reference card or player sheet. Infinity Challenge launched the HeroClix line in May 2002, and WizKids kept the set in print and in tournament circulation until it was formally retired in June 2004, after which its figures continued to see use among collectors and in the broader secondary HeroClix market. As the debut set for the entire HeroClix franchise, Infinity Challenge established the basic mechanics, figure scale and Marvel Comics licensing arrangement that WizKids carried forward into the many further HeroClix sets that followed it, making it a foundational release for what became one of the best known miniatures combat game systems built on a licensed superhero property.
