Highway 2000 (board game)

Highway 2000 is a board game published by Threshold Games in 1981 focused on armed vehicular combat on a futuristic highway. Three to five players design and field heavily armed cars, then battle each other along a modular highway board that can be expanded with additional sections as play continues, giving the game a growing, battle royale style playing area rather than a single fixed map. Random events bring ordinary civilian traffic onto the highway during combat, forcing players to account for innocent vehicles as they maneuver and fight, and different included scenarios vary the specific rules and objectives from one game to the next. The combination of customizable armed vehicles and an expanding board places Highway 2000 alongside other early 1980s vehicular combat games that imagined a violent, post apocalyptic road culture.
