Duel Arcane

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Duel Arcane is a game of magical combat designed by John Shannonhouse and published by Gamelords in 1980. Two players each create a mage with randomized ability scores, then fight in turn based combat that includes initiative rolls, attack declarations and damage calculations based on the combatant's current form. Each mage can shapeshift into various animal forms, with a special totem form that significantly increases combat power, and because the available animal forms are randomly determined during character creation, no two mages are built alike. The game comes with a 28 page rulebook and four pull-out character sheets.
