Modern Hobby Strategy Games

DeathMaze: Heroic Adventure in the Corridors of Doom is a fantasy board game designed by Greg Costikyan and published by Simulations Publications (SPI) in 1979, for 1 to 6 players. It is a dungeon crawl: players create a randomly laid-out monster-filled labyrinth by drawing counters, then take on the role of adventurers exploring its corridors and rooms. Each player builds an adventuring party of 4 to 6 characters, choosing a name, a class of thief, hero or wizard, and two weapons for each. When a monster appears, the party may attempt to negotiate; if that fails, combat continues until either all the monsters or all the adventurers are dead. Adventurers who survive gain experience and strength carried into later games. The game's artwork was by Howard Chaykin, with graphic design by Redmond A. Simonsen.
