Betrayal at House on the Hill

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Betrayal at House on the Hill is an adventure and horror board game first published by Avalon Hill in 2004, with later editions released in 2010 and 2022, designed by Bruce Glassco with development by Rob Daviau, Bill McQuillan, Mike Selinker and Teeuwynn Woodruff. Three to six players begin as allies exploring a haunted mansion whose room tiles are drawn and assembled at random as play proceeds, uncovering dangers, items and ominous events along the way. Once enough omens have accumulated, the game triggers one of dozens of possible haunt scenarios, at which point one player usually turns traitor and takes control of the house's monsters or other threats while the rest continue as the besieged heroes, changing the game's rules and goals for its second half.
