Anachronism (game)

Modern Hobby Strategy Games

Anachronism is a tabletop game published in 2005 by TriKing Games in collaboration with the History Channel, combining elements of miniatures gaming with a collectible card game structure. It is designed for two to four players, with multiplayer variants supporting as many as eight. The game was marketed by its creators as depicting a war between historical figures drawn from across all of human history, and it was promoted with the tagline The Greatest Game in History. During play, participants select warrior cards representing real historical figures and equip them with support cards representing weapons, armor and sources of inspiration, over a match lasting up to five rounds. A defining feature of the game is its deliberate mixing of figures and equipment from unrelated periods and cultures, so that, for example, the ancient Greek warrior Leonidas might appear wearing a Japanese kimono while fighting a ninja armed with a Roman gladius. Combat between warriors is resolved using dice rolls. Anachronism won the 2005 Origins Award for Gamer's Choice Best Collectible Card Game of the Year.
