Daifugō

Daifugō, also known as Daihinmin, Fool or Tycoon, is a Japanese shedding-type card game for three or more players using a standard fifty-two card pack, occasionally supplemented with a joker to make fifty-three. Play proceeds clockwise as each player tries to be the first to get rid of every card in hand by playing progressively stronger cards or sets of cards than the previous player, with the joker ranking highest, followed by 2, then descending from ace down to three. The player who empties their hand first becomes the daifugo, or grand millionaire, earning privileges in the following round, while the last player left holding cards becomes the daihinmin, or grand pauper, and takes on corresponding disadvantages. This escalating social-rank structure across successive hands, layered on top of a simple shedding mechanic, is the game's defining feature and has made it one of the most widely played family card games in Japan.
