Bartok (card game)

Bartok is a card game in the shedding family in which players take turns being the first to empty their hand, similar in basic structure to Crazy Eights, but with the defining feature that whenever a player wins a round, that player invents and adds a new house rule that all subsequent play must follow. As successive rounds accumulate more and more player-invented rules, the game becomes progressively stranger and more difficult to play correctly, and Bartok is frequently used as an icebreaker or teaching example of emergent, self-modifying game design. It has no single fixed rule set or historical point of origin, existing instead as a widely shared folk game and template within recreational and game-design communities.
